Look, look, look, look, look!
Sometimes (or maybe it is more like often or always), I have these epiphanies that at first, seem earth-shatteringly proufound, until I realize they are simply common sense. This weekend, another one of them took up residence in my airy fairy head.
I'm not certain I can explain it, though. It came when I saw this on my kitchen table:
Belle had lined them up without reason, and was giggling at how cute the little ones looked next to the big ones. Now, I'm not a still-life kind of chick, neither in photography nor in drawing or painting. And this weekend, I realized why. This (above), painted, would be borrrrrrrring. Painting, to me, is exciting because you can make it all up. Perspective, color, and all reality, for that matter, can be messed with in a painting, made to mimic my own trippy imagination. But a photograph says, Look. I saw this, for real! It really was this beautiful or magical or horrible or simple or awe-inspiring, if only for 1/125 of a second. A line of grapes, the inside of an apple core, a moment of joy, a moment of stillness.
Like I said, this is no deep thought, and I realize that. You know what a camera does, and so do I. I suppose sometimes you have to forget something basic to re-learn it in depth.

Oh, but that IS cool!!
The world is made up of so many sizes and shapes. And sometimes it is cool just to line things up.

Does this taste funny to you?"
Nice photos. I love photos of the simplest things. It is often my kids that discover them too and make me 'see'.
Poppy cracks me up!!
I think it is a good thing that Kiya sees fun and happiness within order; rather than me seeing that your family is nuts. :)
And, btw, the little ones DO look cute next to the big ones.
and ditto most.
