These kids are constantly teaching me the simplest of truths, just by being. Have I mentioned that already?
Shortcake has been really enjoying music lately, as babies generally do. She dances with fervor to any audible rhythm (and inaudible sometimes, apparently), bangs on the ivories with wild abandon, and performs impromptu "la, la, laaaa" concerts often. It is obviously fun for her, but it is quite serious as well. She does not do any of it to entertain; it is not for us. It comes from a place of necessity. She dances because she must. Playing nonsense on the piano, inhaling and exhaling through the harmonica, singing along... these are not choices. She does them because something inside her moves her to do them. She must.
Not because some creativity book or blog or speaker prompted her to. Not because the baby next door made music. Not because she imagined a life of fame and fortune, a successful harmonica-teaching business, or critical acclaim for her boodie-shaking. (Although her boodie-shaking does indeed rival Beyonce's.)
Play. Serious play, because you must. Yeah, I remember.

And what's with the homie shirt style?! :)
Amen, sista.
Love.
Another obvious talent that seems to run in the family. I do not know what to think about the opened shirt style. I hope it is a fad that is on its way out.
"Teach a child to be polite and courteous, and when she grows up, she'll never be able to merge her car onto the freeway."
What a great little talented face. She looks like she's really into it. My blog will be starting again since I now have my computer running after many weeks!! Now all I have to do is think of something to write. rb
